American Historical Association, 2003 AHA Annual Meeting The
American Historical Association (AHA) is a nonprofit membership organization
founded in 1884 and incorporated by Congress in 1889 for the promotion
of historical studies, the collection and preservation of historical
documents and artifacts, and the dissemination of historical research.
As the largest historical society in the United States, the AHA serves
as the umbrella organization for historians working in every period
and geographical area. Among its 15,000 members are faculty at secondary
schools and two- and four-year colleges and universities, history graduate
students, independent historians, and historians in museums, historical
organizations, libraries and archives, government, and business. |

The Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (CICC) - Confident Parenting The Center offers intensive workshops designed to train people
who work with parents to deliver state-of-the-art parenting skill-building
programs. The Center has trained more than 6,000 instructors nationwide
in its three skill-building programs: Confident
Parenting, Effective
Black Parenting and Los
Ninos Bien Educados. These culturally-adapted programs, developed
by the Center's executive director, Kerby T. Alvy, Ph.D., clinical child
psychologist, teach a variety of effective parenting skills in a manner
that is consistent and supportive of cultural values and traditions.
The skills that are taught in all of three programs include effective
praising, nonviolent confrontation, and the use of special incentives. Para

The California League of Middle Schools is a non-profit membership
association dedicated to improving the professional knowledge of middle
level educators so that early adolescents may experience academic success
and personal well-being. An inclusive organization, CLMS members are
administrators, teachers, parents, professors, policymakers, and others
interested in the achievement of middle level students. |

Cal-SOAP/GEAR-UP, "Bridging The Gap" By building collaborative relationships with federal, state
and local sponsors, Cal-SOAP is working to increase the number or students
who avail themselves of postsecondary opportunities. The goal of the
program is two-fold: to advise, motivate and inform students regarding
college admissions and financial aid information, and to academically
assist students to achieve college potential. |

Association of American Colleges and Universities, 2003 Annual Meeting The Association of American Colleges and Universities is the
leading national association devoted to advancing and strengthening
undergraduate liberal education. Founded in 1915 by presidents of liberal
arts colleges, AAC&U now represents the entire spectrum of American
colleges and universities: large and small, public and private, two-year
and four-year. There are nearly 800 accredited member institutions,
