American Historical Association, 2003 AHA Annual Meeting

The American Historical Association (AHA) is a nonprofit membership organization founded in 1884 and incorporated by Congress in 1889 for the promotion of historical studies, the collection and preservation of historical documents and artifacts, and the dissemination of historical research. As the largest historical society in the United States, the AHA serves as the umbrella organization for historians working in every period and geographical area. The Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (CICC) - Confident Parenting

The Center offers intensive workshops designed to train people who work with parents to deliver state-of-the-art parenting skill-building programs. The Center has trained more than 6,000 instructors nationwide in its three skill-building programs: Confident Parenting, Effective Black Parenting and Los Ninos Bien Educados. These culturally-adapted programs, developed by the Center's executive director, Kerby T. Alvy, Ph.D., clinical child psychologist, teach a variety of effective parenting skills in a manner that is consistent and supportive of cultural values and traditions. The skills that are taught in all of three programs include effective praising, nonviolent confrontation, and the use of special incentives.
