This month we are highlighting President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.” Scientifically based research is a fundamental idea in the Act, and the Act calls for the use of this research as the foundation for many education programs & for classroom instruction. On February 6, Assistant Secretary for Elementary & Secondary Education Susan Neuman hosted a seminar where leading experts in the fields of education and science discussed the meaning of scientifically based research and its status across various disciplines, including reading, math, safe and drug-free schools, and comprehensive school reform. The full transcript of the seminar can be found at: http://www.ed.gov/nclb/research/. We
