LEARNING
& TEACHING
|
Introduction:
This page contains learning and teaching resources aimed at strengthening literacy skills in a number of subject areas. The links include books and other learning resources distributed by exhibiters at various conferences in California such as the Title I Directors’ conference and the Achieving Schools conference. Our intent is to provide a convenient list of links to “no-cost or low cost” current materials and methods that might help parents support the work of classroom teachers. However, we have also included some of the more expensive instructional materials and methods that seem to be very interesting or complete. We have not evaluated these documents and sources. This is left to the viewer.
We have organized the materials and vendors into the following
categories that correspond to general subject areas: 1) General Reference;
2) Reading Literacy/English Language Arts; 3) Math & Science Literacy; 4) Social Science/
Social Studies/History, 5) Art & Music, 6)Health /Nutrition/ Physical
Education, 7) English Language Learners /Bilingual Education & Foreign
Language; 8) Comprehensive (many subject areas); 9) Other/Unusual subject
areas.
We have also coded the vendors according to price.

aware that no generalizations apply to all residents of a nation, and
are careful not to stereotype or judge. Highly recommended to any business

Evans Newton, Inc. – ENI's programs are designed to level the playing field for all students to succeed in their academic careers. ENI works with district administrators and staff to determine goals, provide leadership, coordinate implementation, develop and motivate staff, and evaluate results. A variety of materials is available including “Parent Assisted Learning” packets. Parent Assisted Learning (PAL) Packets are activities that help a parent or guardian strengthen their child's learning base and include the tools necessary to communicate with their child about the specific skills he or she is learning in school. These take-home activities can be done in brief 15-to-30 minute sessions and require no special materials or skills. Each objective-based activity is designed to be carried out with minimal preparation by the assigning teacher and little to no preparation by the parent or guardian. PAL Packets provide research-based strategies and techniques that benefit all students, regardless of their prominent learning styles. PAL Packets include background information for parents and an explanation of what skill the child is actually being asked to demonstrate in easy-to-understand language. PAL Packets include directions for activities that can be done in or outside the home and that are specially designed to motivate students. PAL Packets include advance organizers that are designed to help a child use his or her background knowledge to learn new information, bridging the gap between what a child already knows and what he or she needs to know before the targeted skill can be successfully accomplished. PAL Packets also include graphic organizers that are designed to develop students' thought processes, helping them to more readily grasp and apply new ideas and concepts. www.evansnewton.com |
