Who Should Attend?

v          The conference is recommended for participants from all schools, especially those in program improvement.

v          Teams from schools are encouraged to attend.  School teams may include administrators, teacher leaders,

counselors, Title I resource staff, parent liaisons, paraprofessionals, School Site Council members and parent  

leaders from PTA/parent organizations.  District/county office of education Title I and bilingual education

directors, parent involvement resource staff, District Advisory Council members, and District/Council PTA

members are also encouraged to attend.

Conference Content:

v     Participants will learn effective parent involvement practices based on the most current research that meets the    highest professional and technical standards.

v     Conference content includes:

¨    Using successful partnership strategies at elementary, middle and high school levels to increase student achievement.

¨    Using research-based recruitment strategies to increase parent and community participation in partnership activities.

¨    Setting up an effective action team to plan partnership activities that meet the No Child Left Behind Act parent involvement requirements.

¨    Identifying the strengths of your culturally and linguistically diverse school community and building a welcoming school climate.

¨    Identifying strategies to build parent leadership skills.

¨    Finding funds to support partnership activities.

¨    Providing opportunities to meet parent and school leaders from other county offices, districts and schools to learn what programs and practices are working for them.

University Credit:

v            Participants who would like to earn one unit of university credit from San Diego State University should indicate this on their registration forms.  (1 unit of Education 997 credit is $60.00)
